A Southern Classic- Creamed Peas and New Potatoes Recipe

You know how sometimes you crave a little down-home-cooking? My best friend, Carol Ray, was born and raised in Texas and this recipe came from her. When she makes up a batch of these southern delights- I’m ALL over it!

Ingredients for Creamed Peas and New Potatoes Recipe

Vegetables- Shelled or frozen green peas and tiny new potatoes!

Simple flavors- Green onion, salt, and white pepper

Creamy Sauce- butter, flour, and milk. Start making your rue: to do this melt the butter in a medium sauce pan and whisk in the flour. Cook for 1 minutes to remove the flour (starchy) taste then slow add in the milk, whisking vigorously through the end of the cook time. 

How to make Creamed Peas and New Potatoes Recipe

  • Scrub potatoes and boil until tender; drain.
  • Meanwhile cook peas until tender; drain.
  • Cook onion in butter until tender.
  • Stir in flour, salt, and pepper; cook 1 minute stirring continuously.
  • Slowly add milk; stir with wire whisk.
  • Cook and stir until thick and bubbly.
  • Cook and stir 1 or 2 minutes more.
  • Combine vegetables and cream mixture.
  • Serve and Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. tiny new potatoes, about 15
  • 2 cups shelled peas or one 10 oz. package frozen peas
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onion
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Dash white pepper
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Scrub potatoes and boil until tender; drain.
