Today, we have Aleisha from She Calls me Mama Leisha and I just love her to pieces! Enjoy this cute piece from her…
Lately, the “little man of the house” has been devouring animal cookies. (You know the kind of which I speak, right? Pink and white frosting, multi-colored sprinkles, shaped like animals.) He LOVES them!
Much to my dismay, Camren is obsessed with identifying each animal cookie before he eats it. And I say “much to my dismay” because all the animals look the same! They are bumpy and lumpy and completely unrecognizable! (I swear every dang cookie looks like a bear who is, quite tragically, missing his head.) I cringe when Camren comes running up to me–brown eyes sparkling and a beloved cookie in hand–and yells, “Mom! What animal is this?”
Confession: I make it up. Every time.
“That’s a bear. That’s a lion. That’s a hippo,” I say. I have no idea what they are!
To be honest, I’ve been thinking about those animal cookies a lot lately. (And not because I’m pregnant and starving all the time!) “How sad to look the exact same, same, same,” I think to myself. Those poor, sugary-sweet animals lack uniqueness and individuality!
The cultural anthropologist, Margaret Mead, said, “Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.” I’m so grateful we are all unique. It’s makes our world–like a ginormous bag of animal cookies–more interesting and neat. And we are like the cookies! BUT, there are no “pink and white” bumpy bits here! We are different. We come in all kinds of marvelous sizes and shapes. We each have special talents and gifts. We bless the people in our lives in our own unparalleled ways.
Our uniqueness is what makes us beautiful. All of us! It should be esteemed and celebrated…
Let’s start by eating a cookie!
