Chat with Ruthie… my hand on my heart
Last weekend we were able to go bright and early one morning to pick up my son, Jake, from Scout Camp.
We drove a couple of hours down to where the camp was held in the mountains. The camp held a closing ceremony for the scouts’ families to attend. In this ceremony the scouts performed several skits and then had a flag ceremony. As we stood with our hands on our hearts, I had a chance to reflect on all the reasons I’m grateful for this wonderful country.
AND, somehow, being in the mountains and seeing my son participate in the ceremony helped me realize what an amazing country we live in! It’s an honor to be an American and live in a country where we enjoy so many freedoms.
The Scout Master spoke to us about a compass and a hiking shoe that hung in the center of camp, all during camp, to remind them to choose a good path (compass) and to be engaged in service (hiking shoe). I’m grateful for the scouting program and all it teaches my son- he just spent a week learning how to be a good person, a good citizen, and to stay on a good path. As I see my son learning these important tools to grow up and become a good functioning member of society… I’m even more grateful.
Happy 4th of July- tomorrow! We all have traditions and activities that we enjoy to help celebrate this wonderful holiday! As we go about those things… lets try and remember all the people who currently serve our country and all those that have served through many generations. They’ve made it possible for us to be able to put our hands on our hearts as the flag goes bye- and allow us to express our gratitude and love for this amazing land we call home!
I hope you all enjoy a wonderful day with family and friends…
Love,
Ruthie
