I love having Aleisha from She Calls me Mama Leisha come and visit with us… she makes me smile- I love her!
We’ll let Aleisha take it from here with her touching, Moments of Sweetness…
I make an effort to recognize the “moments of sweetness” in my life.
The moments that are typically small and obscure, that pass by as quickly as a blink or a breath. The moments when everything becomes illuminated, my perspective shifts, and I see resplendence all around me. The moments that are so tender and “sweet” that they make me stop–if only briefly–and say, “Ah-ha! This is it. This is happiness. This is what it looks like. It is right here.”
Moments like…When my daughter proudly announces at the dinner table that she is really smart; she asserts that “she knows about all kinds of things.” She takes a big bite of her half-eaten taco, and between chewing and swallowing, says, “I know about basketball and football and golf ball and meatball.”
Moments like…When Camren laughs at the mess he is making with his taco, and (in his delirium) drops his beloved blanket to the floor. “Oh no, my blanket,” he cries, unable to reach it while strapped into Lilly’s old booster chair. I scoop it up and hand it to him. He grins at me, tucks the worn, blue cloth between his chin and shoulder and says, “Now I’m happy.”
Now I’m happy. Such a simple, yet poignant, expression to pass from a three-year-old’s lips. Now I’m happy.
The dictionary defines “now” as “at the present time or moment.” Are we happy in the present? Do we celebrate our lives as they are rather than dreaming of greener pastures? Or do we hold our breaths and wait for happiness to manifest itself around the next corner? With the next big promotion or purchase? Do we exhaust ourselves by chasing after happiness with thoughts of, “I’ll be happy when…?”
Now. Now is the time to be happy, to recognize the moments of sweetness in your life. Because this is what I am learning: That they are there. Though fleeting (at times) and precious, those moments are there. In your every day.
They are all around you.
