Yarn Letters Gift Idea
Yarn Letters Gift Idea
1 cardboard letter
1 yarn, color of choice (the thicker the better)
2 0r 3 fat quarters material
2in wide by 36in long piece of felt
1 jumbo rick rack
1 medium rick rack
12×12 inch square of burlap
glue gun and sticks
various buttons
Using the hot glue gun to start and assist through wrapping the cardboard letter… the ‘K’ was semi-tricky as I has to double wrap through the center to get it all covered. An ‘E’ or ‘L’ would be super easy to wrap 🙂
To cover the uneven ends I cut several small pieces of yarn, hot glued the into place and trimmed the ends
My friend and neighbor, Debbie, showed me how to make this cute yarn wreath with all the different flowers…
Using the some of the same flower ideas, I made the flowers for the yarn letter, there are a variety of shapes and sizes. I’ll show you how I made the flowers for my Letter K 🙂
The red felt flower- take the piece of felt and fold it in half, make cuts down the folded side about 1/4 inch apart but making sure not to cut completely through the felt
Then starting at one end, glue to secure as you roll it into a flower
The rick rack flowers are very simple just start rolling and securing with hot glue at the base. When reached desired size fold each bump of the rick rack down for petals…
The 3 circle burlap is just that… cut 3 circles out of burlap making each one a little smaller as you go, hot glue together and finish with a cute button …
The cute twisted flower is simple too… take a 2 inch wide piece off of the long side of your fat quarter, fold it in half, tie a knot in one end then begin twisting, keeping it folded in half and wrapping; securing with hot glue as you work.
Hot glue flowers in groups of three onto the yarn wrapped letter…
AND there you go!! A fun personalized gift that anyone would enjoy 🙂
Yarn Letters Gift Idea is great way to make a special gift with a homemade touch! I made this one for my daughter’s birthday but this would be a really fun Christmas Gift too.
Happy Tuesday everyone 🙂

I shared this recipe over at Tatertots and Jello, Or so she says
Super cute! My daughter and I bought the wooden letter to do hers for her room. We still haven’t completed it though because I’m not sure how to do the difficult spots properly. Hers is the letter “R”. Did you just leave the top and bottom edges bare or did you cut small pieces and glue them like you did on the uneven edges of the front part of the letter?
Hi! I just ran small sections of yarn across the tops of the letters- I think I shows in the tutorial, then wrapped the rest of the letter continually. It’s a fun project 🙂
Absolutely stunning! Thank you so much!
Hi Sarah… thank you for the nice comment! It’s a really fun project for sure 🙂 xoxo~ Ruthie

I would love to make my granddaughter the initial for her new bedroom, but I cannot find the cardboard initial. Is it ordered online? I looked at Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby and Michaels, any other suggestions? I love your website and will be visiting often. Thank you for showing something that I can make!!!!!
Hi Marcia. I found my letter at Joanns Fabrics… however, I could swear I also saw them at Hobby Lobby?? I am sure they can be purchased on line through joann.com… I am sure your granddaughter will love this gift! I’m so glad you found my site- stop by anytime 🙂 xoxo~ Ruthie
