When I began my blog… this little “space” that my oldest daughter helped me start and held my hand through it’s first weeks, I had no idea all of the amazing people I would be blessed to connect with and the good friends I would make. I’ve been greatly blessed. The blessings are innumerable and one of the most rewarding parts for me is when people reach out through email or social media to me and share their journey. I met Brittney this way and I’m so grateful to have her here with us today…
Brittney touched my heart and her story is one that needs to have so much more light shed upon it. Depression. It has a profound effect on people in each of our lives. I appreciate her willingness to share her experience~ she is brave and I admire her so much. Much More Precious than Gold.com ‘A happy girls walk with depression’ is the name 0f her blog and that name truly speaks volumes all on it’s own.
Meet my new friend Brittney who is; as all of us are… Much More Precious than Gold.
Hi, my name is Brittney. I write over at Much More Precious than Gold. I’m so happy to be here with Ruthie today! Isn’t she a spectacular lady? I’m grateful for this world of blogging and internet socializing because otherwise, I am sure I would have yet to bump into her… and for sure all of you today. Who knew you could like so many people without having met them?
As I said, my name is Brittney. This is me at age 20.
And this is my family today.
Most people would assume I glided seamlessly from one stage to the next.
Most people would never guess that it involved a trip to hell and back.
As my 30th birthday neared this year, I felt compelled to blog about my true and personal battle with a severe bout of depression. It’s a story that involves climbing out of church windows, hiding out in the mountains, and the police even get involved at one point.
Depression can cause an individual to feel isolated, and that there is something freakishly wrong with them.
And as hard as it is for people to describe or understand, depression is real.
I wrote my story because if I had found something like it in the midst of my struggle, it would have changed everything. I would have known I was not alone, and I would have clung to the hope that there was a way out.
I also wrote my story for Hannah. You can read more about her here. I mean it when I say she pulled my story out of me.
One of the greatest compliments I have received after people read my story is that they get it. Depression is a hard thing to understand unless you’ve gone there. If you have never personally experienced depression and have struggled to understand a loved one who has, my story will lead you there and then take you safely back.
So will you please go read it? And if you are moved, and on the off-chance that there is someone in your life who needs to know that a heart that is begging to give out CAN leap for joy again, will you share it?
I would also love for us to connect!

I hope you’ll take the time to jump over and read Brittney’s story, I can’t thank her enough for being willing to share her journey with us…
Depression is something we all need to become better educated about and where there is greater awareness the better we are able to love the people around us that battle with depression.
God Bless.
xoxo~ Brittney and Ruthie
