Momma’s Bench Re-due

 

SO, we snagged this bench from my mom a few years ago with the intent to spiff it up a bit ONLY, we never quiet got to the re-due-ing it part!!  Lucky you…  Now,  you can come along on this rehabbing adventure!

 

 

This bench has been well loved and has also gotten a little weathered outside!

 

Momma’s Bench had to be to lightly sanded to remove the splinters and completely painted to weather proof the wood and cover the rust on the metal.

 

 

Some of the screws, washers, and bolts needed replacing… also using Pro Lok on them will help them stay tight as it helps “lock” the screws in place.

Next a wire brush to the metal helps make sure that any flakes are removed…

 

Abbie and I blew off our bench with compressed air before we began painting, vacuum it off or wash it off but make sure you give ample drying time!

 

I decided to spray paint this bench with a outdoor paint that would cover rust but still work on wood too!  When spray painting it’s best to use long strokes, work in one direction, and plan on doing 2-3 coats to get even coverage.  I am the spray paint queen… you’d be shocked at how many things in my house have been updated with a simple can of spray paint 🙂

A word to the wise… use an adequate  drop cloth because over spray really does happen!  I used an old tarp…

 

 

AND those shoes I wore… not a good idea!  Cuz as you can see over spray happens BUT, not to worry a little dab of Xylene will take it right off! (just wash with soap and water quick after)

 

Thanks for coming along on Momma’s Bench Re-due… as you can see it looks a million times better and a can of spray paint is WAY less expensive than buying a new bench for our fire pit!  AND I’m sure our marshmallow roasting nights will be much improved w/o a splintered bench 🙂
