DIY Garden Markers

I’m so glad the sun is out and the weather is warming up!  Miss Dru from Polkadot Poplars is here with us today and I love the project she brought to share…

Hello! Today I’m sharing a quick and easy garden marker idea that I recently made and thought maybe you might find it helpful.

Do you plant a garden? I try to grow a few things every year, especially things I know I can’t kill like tomatoes and squash. Last year I neglected to mark my veggies and got confused about where I placed everything, so this year I decided to make some markers.

Gardening is a great family project and it’s so rewarding to watch it grow and then harvest it when it’s ready. Be sure to include your family when you make your garden markers, too. What’s fun about these is that everyone could create their own.

Paint sticks are perfect for this project because they are a good size and they’re free (bonus). I grabbed some from the home store, then purchased some wood letters from the craft store, and used the paint I already had.

Garden Marker Supplies

  • Paint Sticks
  • Wood Letters
  • Paint
  • Strong Adhesive
  • Clear Finish Spray

Garden Marker Instructions

  • Paint the sticks. I spray painted mine, but you could use a brush on acrylic. I like to use brighter colors so they are more visible as the garden gets bigger.
  • Decide which veggies you are going to grow and choose the letters you need. Paint them.
  • Arrange the words on your paint sticks to figure out spacing. Using a strong adhesive glue the letters into place. (I used E-6000 to glue my letters on. With the weather and watering you want to make sure they stay on.)
  • Finish by spraying or brushing on a good varnish. I put two coats on just to be safe.

These are simple, but I think they will do the trick in keeping my garden organized. What do you think?
