White Texas Sheet Cake

White Texas Sheet Cake is moist and mouth-watering with just a touch of almond flavoring to it- YUM 🙂

Total Time 42 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, cubed
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • FROSTING:
  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 4-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Cake:
  2. In a large saucepan, bring butter and water just to a boil.
  3. Immediately remove from the heat; stir in the flour, sugar, eggs,
  4. sour cream, salt, baking powder, extract and baking soda until
  5. smooth.
  6. Pour into a greased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan.
  7. Bake at 375° for 18-22 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick
  8. inserted near the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool on a wire rack for 20 minutes.
  10. Frosting:
  11. in a large saucepan, bring butter and milk just to a boil.
  12. Immediately remove from the heat; stir in confectioners' sugar and extract.
  13. Stir in walnuts; spread over warm cake.
  14. Cool completely.

    This cake is so, so yummy! I think it’s actually better the next day…the flavors sort of meld together, and it’s just so good. I had to add a little extra milk to the frosting because it was too thick (I may have measured incorrectly to begin with); otherwise, I followed the recipe as written. It got rave reviews by everyone who ate it. This is definitely a repeat!
